Thomas Kennedy is one of the worlds finest living exponents of the art of Scagliola. He specialises in table tops, chimney-pieces, wall panels, plaques and turned objects such as pedestals and columns.
Thomas works to commission only, either to the clients design or his own.
More information on the history of scagliola can be found at Wikipedia. See the "links" page.
The advantages that scagliola has over real marbles and stones are:
A) More control over the colour, if a particular colour is needed to match a fabric in the room. See "colour palettes" page for some examples.
B) Bespoke "marble" can be created that does not exist in nature. See "marble mixes" page for some examples.
C) Scagliola slabs can be made to any thickness. It is not restricted to the standard 18 or 25 mm thickness of stone slabs.
D) Scagliola inlay is completely seamless and joint free, allowing for very fine detail down to the width of a pencil line.
E) The material can be sealed against staining from red wine, water etc. Maintenance is easy.
